Corey Seager receiving his World Series MVP trophy. Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (5) celebrates with the World Series MVP after the Texas Rangers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks to win the World Series in game five of the 2023 World Series at Chase Field in Phoenix on Nov. 1, 2023.

The Texas Rangers captured their first World Series in franchise history with a 5-0 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 5 Wednesday evening.

It marked the fourth World Series for first-year Rangers manager Bruce Bochy, who won three titles with the San Francisco Giants.

Rangers shortstop Corey Seager was named 2023 World Series MVP. He also won the 2020 World Series MVP with the Los Angeles Dodgers, making Seager just the fourth player to ever win multiple World Series MVPs, joining Reggie Jackson, Bob Gibson, and Sandy Koufax. Of the four, just Seager and Jackson won the award with two different teams, and Seager is the only player to do it in both the American League and National League.

Seager hit three home runs in the five-game series, including a two-run game-tying long ball in the ninth inning of Game 1, which the Rangers would go on to win in 11 innings. Seager’s seventh-inning single in Game 5 broke up Arizona pitcher Zac Gallen’s no-hitter and also led to the Rangers’ first run of the game, which was ultimately the difference-maker.

The shortstop has racked up plenty of other accolades in his career, as well, being named to the All-Star team four times, taking home two Silver Sluggers, and being named the 2016 NL Rookie of the Year.

Seager’s impressive feat had social media buzzing.
