Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte (4) fouls a ball off against the New York Yankees during the first inning at Chase Field on Monday, April 1, 2024, in Phoenix.

As the Arizona Diamondbacks look to defend their National League championship throughout the 2024 season, one of their best players reached a career milestone Wednesday in the team’s 6-5 loss to the New York Yankees.

Arizona second baseman Ketel Marte became the league’s newest member of the 1000-hit club in the game, recording a leadoff double in the bottom of the first inning off New York pitcher Carlos Rodón.

The broadcast acknowledged the hit as number 1,000 in Marte’s career.

Marte’s big day wasn’t done, however.

In the fifth inning, the slugger mashed a mammoth solo home run to tie te game at two.

While the Diamondbacks were unable to pull out the victory, Marte’s performance capped off a great series for the 2019 MLB All-Star, as he went 5-for-12 and drove in three runs in the three games against the Yankees.

Marte originally joined the Diamondbacks in 2017 after the team traded for him in the offseason, sending pitcher Taijuan Walker to the Seattle Mariners, where Marte spent his first two seasons. Marte hit safely in his first 18 postseason games for the Diamondbacks, setting an MLB record. The streak lasted all the way through Arizona’s 2023 World Series appearance against the Texas Rangers, where Marte was finally held hitless in a postseason game in his MLB career after going 0-for-2 with three walks in game five of the series.
