Arizona Diamondbacks Ketel Marte (4) hits a home run off Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Lance Lynn (35) in the third inning during Game 3 of the NLDS at Chase Field in Phoenix on Oct. 11, 2023.

Corbin Carroll jumped into the pool behind the Chase Field outfield wall. The rest of the Diamondbacks joined him in a celebration for the ages.

Arizona defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night in a 4-2 historic evening sending the team to the NLCS for the first time since 2007.

It was also the first team in postseason history to hit four home runs in a single inning, but it truly is just the beginning for the young squad.

This looks to be the beginning of something special for years to come.

“Yeah, we’ve got some really good talent,” Carroll said after the win. “And as you said, a good portion of it is young. I think the exciting thing is we’re still getting better. Still adapting to this level. Still kind of going through the trials and tribulations and coming out the other side a better product. I think there’s a lot to be excited about.”

The 23-year-old signed an eight-year, $111 million deal in March, cementing him in the team’s future. And he’s worth every dime. Especially from a team that isn’t used to dipping their hands in their pockets.

Carroll finished his rookie season with an All-Star selection after slashing .285/.362/.506 with 25 home runs, 76 RBI and a National League-leading 10 triples.

He’s part of a young core that possesses catcher Gabriel Moreno, outfielders Alex Thomas and Jake McCarthy as well as Wednesday’s starter Brandon Pfaadt.

Pfaadt struck out two giving up just as many hits and no walks in 4 1/3 innings.

The guys have been proving themselves through the ranks of the minors and the grueling journey has led them to the NLCS.

“It’s exactly that,” D-backs first baseman Christian Walker said. “It’s a growth mindset. That answer is the epitome of it. We’re proud and we’re happy with what we’re doing, but also, like, every day is an opportunity to learn and be a better player.”

“And I think when guys like that have that mentality, it’s dangerous. And it’s cool to be a part of.”

NLCS Game 1 will take place Monday, Oct. 16. The D-backs will face the winner of the NLDS Game 4 between the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies.
