Edwin Diaz has been lights out for the New York Mets this season. With an ERA of 1.38 and an amazing intro song to boot, the All-Star closer will surely be looking to capitalize on that success to cash in at the bank.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan made an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show Thursday, believing that Diaz’s performance could earn him the first $100 million contract for a closer in MLB history.

“This was a guy who got traded to the Mets for Jarred Kelenic a couple of years ago; it looked like a complete disaster of a deal. But this is his free-agent year right now, and he’s been the best reliever in baseball. And he’s gonna go out and he may this offseason become the first $100 million closer.”
Diaz is amongst the top of the league tying at fourth for saves with 29 and is averaging a ridiculous 17.04 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.
Whether that has anything to do with the unreal hype he’s receiving from Mets fans, they sure showed him a lot of appreciation when Timmy Trumpet, the artist of Diaz’s walkout son appeared at Citi Field on Wednesday night to rock the crowd.

Diaz was able to close things out Thursday in the ninth inning to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3.
The Mets are still in first place in the NL East (84-48) and geared up for a long postseason run. It will be, albeit a total collapse, the first time New York made the playoffs since a Wild Card appearance in 2016.
