If you go to a baseball game, chances are that you’ll see something you’ve never seen before. For anyone who went to the Lake County Captains game on Friday, that was absolutely the case.

The Captains, the High-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians, were hosting the Dayton Dragons, affiliates of the Cincinnati Reds. As is so often the case with Minor League Baseball, there was a special promotion on Friday night.

The Mascot Cup.

What is The Mascot Cup? According to the Team Website, The Mascot Cup allows fans to “Watch Skipper [the Captains Mascot] compete against other mascots from both Northeast Ohio and all across the nation in a variety of skills competitions paying tribute to the Women’s World Cup! May the best mascot win!”

One of the participants was Geoffrey, the mascot from Toys“R”Us. Geoffrey did not win. In fact, he didn’t even finish on the podium. The podium ceremony, though, was Geoffrey’s stage.

With a cigarette dangling out of his mouth, Geoffrey wore a pair of tighty-whiteys, Nike shoes and nothing else. It was a sight to behold.

It was also quite a sound for the ears. With the music of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” playing in the background, Geoffrey began singing the song. Only, after the opening line he went freestyle.

The scene in Eastlake, Ohio caught the attention of several baseball fans on Twitter.
