New York Mets GM Sandy Alderson isn’t enthused with how Yoenis Cespedes has been spending his time while on the disabled list.

Cespedes was put on the disabled list on Wednesday due to a quadricep injury. Earlier the same day, broadcaster Kevin Millar tweeted a photo of Cespedes playing golf.

Alderson was upset with Cespedes playing golf, the same day he hit the DL. He told the Bergen Record despite the chances of him getting injured playing are slim, the optics of the situation were bad.

“The golf is bad optics, let’s just start there,” Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson said prior to Thursday’s Subway Series finale. “Our doctors have told us that probably had no impact on the injury, positive or negative, but let’s face it, to play golf during the day and then go out injured in the evening, it’s a bad visual. I think he recognizes that at this point. So we’ll go from there.”

Interestingly enough, manager Terry Collins told the Bergen Record “we can’t worry about what happened in 12 in the afternoon,” siding with Cespedes.

Both sides here have a point, but Cespedes wasn’t doing anything wrong.

The avid golfer was enjoying his day before a game, just like he should. As long as he’s ready and prepared, it shouldn’t matter what he does during the day. Alderson is clearly frustrated. He’s connecting the dots himself, thinking his star players golf day somehow impacted his health. It’s Alderson’s job to worry, but Cespedes’ golf day didn’t cause his injury.

Alderson has bigger things to worry about. Cespedes’ golfing is a non-factor and should be treated as such.
