Nathan Fielder

After spending much of the 2022 MLB season atop the NL East, the New York Mets floundered into the finish, ending up as a Wild Card and limping into the playoffs. You might find it hard to imagine that a 101-win team could have its fans terrified about the impending collapse ahead, but then you might be familiar enough with being a Mets fan.

Nathan Fielder is getting to live that experience Friday night as he watched the Mets take on the San Diego Padres in a game they do not appear likely to win.

Starting pitcher Max Scherzer did not have a very good outing, giving up a two-run blast to Josh Bell to give the Padres a 2-0 lead and it only got worse from there.

In the fifth inning, Scherzer allowed more home runs, topping out at four, as part of a Padres’ effort that pushed the score to 7-0.

It’s a nightmare scenario for all Mets fans, but everything about how they feel about the game and their team could be summed up in the face of Nathan Fielder as the Nathan For You and The Rehearsal comedian was featured on the Jumbotron.

Like everything Fielder does, it’s impossible to tell if he’s actually upset or pretending to be upset for the camera. That’s his whole thing.

But regardless, his sourpuss had the MLB world howling and reacting with glee.
