On Wednesday night, the Baltimore Orioles will host an LGBTQ+ Pride Night event. They become the latest MLB team to celebrate and acknowledge the LGBTQ+ community as Pride Month winds down.
At Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the Orioles host the red-hot Cincinnati Reds. Before the game, O’s manager Brandon Hyde spoke on the Pride Night festivities. To Hyde’s credit, his thoughts were clear, concise, and to the point.
Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun tweeted, “Orioles manager Brandon Hyde opened his availability by acknowledging the team’s Pride Night: ‘We’re happy to promote equality and inclusivity for all fans.'”

Granted, this is a pretty straightforward statement with not too much. Considering, however, that it often seems like people can’t say the right things when given the opportunity, it is at least somewhat refreshing.
Plus, when you remember that there was one MLB team who didn’t even bother to host a Pride Night, the statement at least establishes that the O’s aren’t in that mix. That team was the Texas Rangers. Based on a report that emerged on that decision earlier this week, it seems like not everyone in the Ranger organization was such a fan of the decision to omit Pride Night from their June promotional schedule.
The Orioles made a post on their Twitter account that they would share facts on the LGBTQ+ community on Wednesday night “in lieu of game coverage and in celebration of Pride Night.”
