There’s never a good time for a baseball player to commit an error. That said, sometimes are far worse than others. Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm found that out the hard way on Friday night.
Bohm and the Phillies were in a tight spot on Friday night against the Milwaukee Brewers. Philadelphia had a one-run lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, but it was precarious, as Milwaukee’s Owen Miller came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. Miller hit a grounder to third, for what looked like it would be a relatively easy play for Bohm.
But it didn’t work that way. Bohm attempted to backhand the ball but it slipped under his glove and went down the third base line. The tying and go-ahead runs scored easily. Left fielder Jake Cave made a strong throw to home, but Milwaukee’s Tyrone Taylor slid in ahead of catcher J.T. Realmuto’s tag, giving the Brewers three runs off of Bohm’s error.
"Oh man! The Brewers just scored three runs in such a heartbreaking Phillies way on the error by Alec Bohm!… The entire tide of this game turns on one groundball to third."- Tom McCarthy ⚾️🎙️ pic.twitter.com/efQIlix0yD

A nightmare bottom of the eighth for the Phillies. José Alvarado couldn't throw strikes. Alec Bohm botched what would have been an inning-ending groundout. What a swing.

The 7-5 score ended up being the final. Twisting the knife in deeper, Bohm made the final out of the game, with Milwaukee third baseman Andruw Monasterio making a similar play to the one Bohm failed to make.
