Pittsburgh Pirates tweet

The Twitterverse exploded Saturday with angry and confused users after Twitter owner Elon Musk unexpectedly announced limits to the number of posts that can be read per day.

Verified (blue check) accounts can view 8,000 posts per day, while unverified accounts, which comprise the vast majority of Twitter accounts, can view only 800 posts per day. New accounts are restricted even further, to 400 per day.

Not surprisingly, Twitter users vehemently protested the controversial new limits. Some quickly labeled the change as, “The Day Twitter Died.”

In a hilarious aside, shortly after Musk made the announcement, Philadelphia Phillies slugger Nick Castellanos — who always seems to homer right when breaking news happens — hit a home run.

While MLB insiders and fans blasted Musk’s announcement, at least a couple of baseball teams took the complaints to a whole new level.

After the Cincinnati Reds’ 12-5 loss to the San Diego Padres, the Reds tweeted a “You are rate limited” message in place of the final score.

Following the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 11-8 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, the Pirates social media person expertly trolled Musk.

Frustrated Twitter users who had been venting about the controversial new limit loved the Pirates’ and Reds’ posts.
