In a 2001 spring training game, an unfortunate bird flew in the path of a pitch thrown by then-Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher, Randy Johnson. The pitch hit the bird, leading to an explosion of feathers.
Now, more than 22 years later, that incident led to a couple’s incredible Halloween costume.
During Game 2 of the World Series, which featured the Diamondbacks, a Twitter user (@nothanksalex) shared a photo. The photo featured a man in a full baseball uniform, wearing Johnson’s No. 51 Diamondbacks jersey. He also had Johnson’s familiar mullet and mustache, as well as a baseball in his left hand and a glove on his right. The woman, meanwhile, was wearing a white outfit with a boa. The feathers on the boa had some red stains on it.
The caption on the tweet read “happy halloween @MLB.” Next to the photo of the costume was the familiar image of Johnson’s pitch hitting the bird.

We will no doubt see many other photos of creative costume ideas from individuals and couples over the next few days. Because of that, we probably can’t officially award the prize for the best Halloween Costume of the Year until Halloween ends on Tuesday.
That said, this will be awfully hard to beat.
