Opening Day 2024 will feature at least one top Major League Baseball prospect. While disappointment trickles out of Baltimore after the curious Jackson Holliday decision, the Texas Rangers opted to go to the other end of the spectrum.

The reigning World Series Champions will push one of their youngest and brightest up the ladder. Texas will promote top prospect Wyatt Langford and he will make the Opening Day roster.

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy informed the media of the team’s decision to bring Langford to the big leagues.

“Wyatt Langford will make the Rangers’ Opening Day roster, per Bruce Bochy,” MLB.com reporter Kennedi Landry reported. Landry posted the news on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

Langford is one of MLB’s top prospects. The Rangers drafted him 4th overall in the 2023 MLB Draft after Langford spent some time as a potential top pick. He showed a lot of talent during Spring Training this year, in particular his home-run swing. Earlier this March, Langford stepped in and had a multi-homer day.

The Rangers don’t appear concerned that Langford is a prospect and doesn’t “have” to be called up right away. For example, other teams, such as the Baltimore Orioles, have opted to keep their top prospects in the minors. But the Rangers, brazen for their big spending, clearly have a different philosophy from other clubs.

Langford will have lofty expectations going into this season. Expect him to be a serious AL Rookie of the Year candidate.
