Trevor Story has yet to play on a big-league field this season, but looks to make his Red Sox return on Tuesday. WORCESTER – Worcester’s Trevor Story watches his ball bounce into the stands for a ground-ruled double in the third inning against Rochester at Polar Park Wednesday, July 26, 2023.

Boston Red Sox infielder Trevor Story continues to proceed with caution in his return from an elbow injury. The latest has him remaining on the injured list despite previous possibilities.

Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reported Story will be returning from the IL on Tuesday after changing his mind from a Monday return.

Story underwent surgery on his right elbow in January and took the steps in his return which resulted in a rehab assignment with Double-A Portland on July 21.

In 13 minor-league games, Story is batting .300/.417/.700 with four homers and nine RBI.

Wednesday was the final day of Story’s 20-day rehab assignment which is given to a position player working off of an injury. The Red Sox were then given 48 hours to make a decision.

The Red Sox didn’t make any moves during the trade deadline to make a run at the postseason and now find themselves with a 58-54 record, and fifth place in the AL East.

On Sunday, manager Alex Cora spoke to the media about Story and the latest.

“It’s spring training for him,” Cora said (h/t NBC Sports Boston). “I don’t think it’s the repetitions and all that. It’s how he feels body-wise and the only guy who feels that is him. We’re supporting him. We’re helping him out with everything and hopefully after these three or four days, he feels ready, he feels good physically, and we can move forward.”
