When super agent Scott Boras is around, the scrum forms a circle around him with their recording devices ready.

While he represents the biggest names in baseball, Boras also manages to deliver his media availability with a unique, almost poetic approach.

Naturally, he was one of the main attractions and the annual general manager meetings in Scottsdale, Ariz. this week.

Here were some of his Boras-like quotes.

Let’s kick things off with Cody Bellinger and Pete Alonso, shall we?

“Chicago got the comforts of a full Belli,” he said. “They’re going to have to loosen their belts to keep Bellinger.”

Bellinger did indeed receive a qualifying offer from the Cubs worth $20,325 for the 2024 season. It doesn’t appear Bellinger accepted it or is planning on doing so.

He’s expected to be a top free-agent outfielder, but Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer did say they’d love to have the former NL MVP return to the team.

As far as Alonso goes.

“When it comes to the Polar Bear, we’re not in contract hibernation,” Boras said.

I *believe* this means they’re still negotiating a possible extension for Alonso.

With the New York Mets recently hiring president of baseball operations Davis Stearns, he made it clear he expects Pete to be the Opening Day first baseman in 2024.

Stearns had a meeting with Boras and said himself while the meeting was fun, “I’m not as creative in describing meetings in discussion as Scott is.”

Boras commented on Mets owner Steve Cohen and his ability to spend saying, “When you have the bigger jet, and you say you’re going slower, you’re still going faster.”

One of the other top free agents is Korean superstar Jung Hoo Lee who is slashing a career .340/.407/.491. He has very few weaknesses in the box, but Boras said, “Jung Hoo [Lee] is going to bring K-pop to MLB.”

Then there was this on Blake Snell:

“In the pitching autobahn, it’s pretty much Mach Snell,” Boras said.

K — I don’t know what that means, however, I would assume it means he wants to get something done quickly for his pitching client. Anyways, Snell also received his own qualifying offer from the San Diego Padres, and he did so after putting on a masterful 2023.

He finished last season’s campaign boasting a 2.25 ERA and 1.19 ERA with 234 strikeouts in 180 innings.

But it was Boras who stole on the show Wednesday.
