Earlier this week, Curt Schilling controversially shared news that Boston Red Sox legend Tim Wakefield was battling cancer. And in a tragic turn of events, it sounds like the two-time World Series Champion has lost that battle.

On Sunday afternoon, the Boston Red Sox shared the tragic announcement that former pitcher Tim Wakefield died at the age of 57 as a result of his battle with cancer.

“Our hearts are broken with the loss of Tim Wakefield.

Wake embodied true goodness; a devoted husband, father, and teammate, beloved broadcaster, and the ultimate community leader. He gave so much to the game and all of Red Sox Nation.

Our deepest love and thoughts are with Stacy, Trevor, Brianna, and the Wakefield family,” the Red Sox said in a post on X, the social media website formerly known as Twitter.

It’s an absolutely tragic announcement, and the Major League Baseball community took to social media to offer their tributes to the fallen Boston Red Sox legend.

Wakefield was named an All-Star during the 2009 Major League Baseball season and helped lead the Boston Red Sox to World Series titles in both 2004 and 2007.

He is a member of the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame after an absolutely legendary career.
