The Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies will have an extra day to get ready for Game 3 of the World Series. Game 3, which was scheduled for Monday night, has been postponed.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that the game had “been officially postponed.” He also reported the new schedule, which will have Games 3-5 played in Philadelphia on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Then, after an off day on Friday, the World Series will resume (if necessary) in Houston for Game 6 on Saturday and Game 7 on Sunday.

That was confirmed by Major League Baseball’s official Twitter page.

Naturally, baseball fans were not happy with the news.

Monday’s rainout will throw a wrench into both starting rotations.

Nightengale reported that Ranger Suárez and Aaron Nola will start Games 3 and 4, respectively for the Phillies. Starting duties in Games 5-7 would be handled by Noah Syndergaard (presuming he’s not used out of the bullpen in Games 3 or 4), Zach Wheeler and Suárez, respectively.

Houston, meanwhile, will still use Lance McCullers to start Game 3. Then, Games 4 and 5 will be started by Cristian Javier and Justin Verlander.

With the rainout, Thursday night is now guaranteed to be a busy sports night in both cities. While the Astros and Phillies will be playing Game 5 in Philadelphia, the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles and Houston Texans will be playing in Houston at the same time.

This is the first World Series game to be postponed since Game 6 of the 2011 World Series between the Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals.
