The New York Yankees made a massive decision on their top prospect on Sunday. It’s already a decision that’s paying off amongst their fanbase.

The Yankees revealed that they’ve called top prospect Anthony Volpe up to the team for Opening Day. Volpe, 21, had an incredible Spring Training and beat out another top-flight prospect, Oswald Peraza, for a spot on the Bronx Bombers’ roster.

New York posted an awesome video on their Twitter account that showed the conversation that manager Aaron Boone had with Volpe when he delivered the big news.

“This is a difficult conversation to have to have because you came in and played your ass off,” Boone said. “We talked about the start of this being a competition and you killed it. But at the end of the day, you got 20-something games in Triple-A, there’s always room for development. But, at the end, I think that development should happen in the big leagues.

“Welcome to New York,” Boone said with a smile as he congratulated and hugged Volpe, who was visibly ecstatic about the decision.

“Anthony Volpe is Bronx Bound,” the team officially announced to loads of fanfare.

Anthony Volpe is an elite prospect. He ranks fifth among all prospects according to MLB.com. He is only trailing Gunnar Henderson, Corbin Carroll, Francisco Álvarez, and Jordan Walker, who the Cardinals added to their Opening Day Roster on Saturday.

So now it’s Volpe who will get all the fanfare. Yankee fans have craved either he or Oswald Peraza at the big league level since last season. Now, they’ll get what they want with Volpe, who will become the latest super-prospect to hit the big leagues.

It’s certainly one of the biggest debuts for the Yankees in quite some time, as well, for one of their own. All eyes will now be on “Vol-pening Day.”
