Former President Donald Trump gained some significant attention on Saturday night as Trump attended UFC 290: Volkanovski vs. Rodríguez at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The former President, who faces over 30 felony counts of business fraud after a New York grand jury indicted him earlier this spring, also had an encounter with a fighter that went viral.
South African fighter Dricus du Plessis made quick work in his fight on Saturday night. A middleweight fighter, du Plessis defeated Robert Whittaker via TKO in the second round.
After picking up the victory, the fighter hopped the cage to see the former President. du Plessis shook hands with Trump, who stood up and greeted the fighter with a handshake. Trump was seated next to UFC President Dana White at the event.

The win improved Dricus’ fighting record to 20-2-0. It came on the heels of a victory over Derek Brunson back at UFC 285 in March. He has not lost a fight since his first fight with the MMA promotion in October 2020. He has not lost an MMA fight, in general, since October 2018, when he fell to Roberto Soldic by knockout at KSW 45.
He’s also not the first UFC fighter and probably not the last to try and cozy up to Donald Trump. So the action itself was not all that surprising after it went down.
