The Atlanta Hawks will be without one of their key players for the next two weeks.

Atlanta guard Dejounte Murray will miss the next two weeks after he sustained a left ankle sprain. NBA insider Shams Charania reported the news of Murray’s injury on Twitter, writing, “Hawks All-Star Dejounte Murray is expected to miss two weeks with a left ankle sprain, sources tell me and Sam Amick.”

Prior to the injury, Murray averaged 20.8 points, 6.2 assists, and 5.4 rebounds per game in 25 games. He shot 45.2 percent from the field, 36.6 percent from 3, and 83.6 percent from the free throw line. Safe to say, he emerged as a key contributor to the team. But now, the Hawks will be without him.

As Shams wrote, this is the latest injury that Atlanta must cope with. Hawks forward De’Andre Hunter and center John Collins are both out with injuries themselves, so this only exacerbates it.

Atlanta is in fifth place in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. The Hawks sit 13-12 and are 7.5 games back of first-place Boston. A shred of good news for the Hawks is that they are only scheduled to play two playoff teams in the Eastern and Western Conferences over the next two weeks: Brooklyn and Memphis. So while they are hurting, the competition won’t be stiff.

It’s not the best time to be a Hawks fan right now. What with all the injuries and the emerging extracurriculars surrounding their biggest star.
