Dikembe Mutombo is one of the most iconic players in the history of the NBA and one of the best and most prolific shot-blockers in basketball history. But in a recent update, he and his family revealed that he is battling a serious health concern.

According to a statement released by the NBA on Saturday morning, the NBA legend and basketball Hall of Famer is currently battling a brain tumor.

“NBA Global Ambassador and Basketball Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo is currently undergoing treatment for a brain tumor,” the NBA statement read. “He is receiving the best care possible from a collaborative team of specialists in Atlanta and is in great spirits as he begins treatment. Dikembe and his family ask for privacy during this time so they can focus on his care. They are grateful for your prayers and good wishes.”

The sad and shocking news drew quite a reaction from the NBA world.

Mutombo is an absolute NBA legend. The No. 4 overall pick by the Denver Nuggets in 1991, he played 19 seasons in the NBA across six different teams. During his playing days, he was an eight-time All-Star and was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year four different times.
