Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is currently serving a suspension imposed by the organization for punching teammate Jordan Poole in the face during an altercation that Green started in practice.

Green is not a free agent until 2024, but Stephen A. Smith of ESPN said Monday that Green could be on his way out of the Bay Area much sooner. And if that happens, his preferred destination would be with LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

“Draymond Green is expecting this to be his last year in Golden State. Now, he wanna be a Laker. He ain’t gonna tell anybody that, but don’t think I don’t know. He’d prefer to be a Laker if he gotta leave Golden State,” Clutch Points tweeted.

The NBA world was quick to react to the report:

“The only reason I’m skeptical is because Steph in theory wants Draymond on the team,” one user wrote.

“The Lakers likely won’t have the cap space next summer to sign a max free agent, but they will be able to afford somebody just below max level…” another user wrote.

“Many of us been saying it since he signed w/ new agency. Been real buddy buddy since…long gone the days of any cavs vs warriors rivalry, beef from ’14 and so on…,” Grady Edwards wrote.

“Translation: I don’t have sources but I’m going to piece things together and get ahead of something that could happen so I look smart if it does,” said one user, ridiculing Smith’s report.

“I mean Stephen A have gotten caught multiple times citing fake sources so we should tread lightly,” wrote one user.

The Warriors are next in action Tuesday when they host the Portland Trailblazers in preseason play.
