Former NBA player Enes Freedom stirred up a hornets nest of controversy surrounding transgender athletes on Friday with a bizarre tweet.
Freedom, formerly known as Enes Kanter, also pointed the finger at women’s rights activists and “feminists” for not standing up to transgender athletes dominating women’s events.
“Men don’t belong in women’s spaces,” Freedom tweeted.
“Restrooms – Locker Rooms or Sports.
“Since I’m blackballed from the @NBA, should I put on a wig, identify as a woman and start dominating the @WNBA?
“Is that when the outrage will begin? Is that fair to all the women who spent their whole life chasing their goals? Where are all the Women Rights Activists and Feminists?!”

Freedom played 11 seasons in the NBA, averaging 11.2 point and 7.8 rebounds per game. Since leaving the league in 2022, he has been embroiled in a high-profile dispute with the government in his native Turkey over human rights abuses. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan put a $500,000 bounty on Freedom earlier this year.
America is a free country, and Freedom can say what he wants without fear of being targeted by death squads. But he best be prepared for some brutal feedback on Twitter.
You not gonna play defense there either
