With Kevin Durant making the decision to join the Golden State Warriors, the work to officially bring the Oklahoma City Durant era down has begun. Workers outside Oklahoma City’s Chesapeake Energy Arena were captured tearing down the banner featuring Durant’s likeness above the arena’s entrance.

Durant’s image was plastered to the walls between his now former teammates Russell Westbrook and Steven Adams. There really is no better way to capture the symbolism of the end of an era for a sports franchise than by literally tearing a player’s image off the walls of its stadium or arena.
Durant’s move to a Western Conference rival has been a somewhat bitter pill to swallow for some Thunder fans, but the team has no choice but to move on as quickly and effectively as possible.
On a related note, the banner of LeBron James is also coming down in Cleveland, although for a much different and much more temporary reason.
