Luka Dončić had one of the greatest games in NBA history on Friday, scoring an astounding 73 points and leading the Dallas Mavericks to a 148-143 win over the Atlanta Hawks.
One of his teammates found a humorous way to mark the occasion.
Shortly after the game ended, Grant Williams posted a selfie of himself and Dončić to Twitter/X.
“82 points right here,” Williams posted, along with a flexing biceps emoji. He then got more serious, saying, “Congrats brother that was special to witness it.”

Fans, for the most part, appreciated Williams’ sense of humor and self-awareness.

It’s worth noting that the Mavericks won the game by only five points. In other action on Friday, Devin Booker scored 62 as his Phoenix Suns lost to the Indiana Pacers. Karl-Anthony Towns scored 62 points to set a new franchise record for the Minnesota Timberwolves — who still lost to the Charlotte Hornets. Without Williams’ nine points, Dončić and the Mavericks may have been in the same boat.
There are some similarities here to the fact that Pete Rose (4,256) and Pete Rose Jr. (2) pounded out a combined 4,258 base hits in their respective MLB careers. Williams’ nine points won’t stand out in the box score like Dončić’s 73. Heck, they won’t even jump out like the 21 and 13 scored by Dallas teammates, Josh Green and Tim Hardaway Jr., respectively.
That said, those nine points definitely helped the day go a lot better for the Mavericks and their fans.
