Over the past few seasons, NBA superstar Luka Doncic has emerged as one of the top players in the league and has long been the top player on the Dallas Mavericks roster. But given the team’s struggles, there’s a chance his time in Dallas could be coming to a close.

On early Saturday morning, Dallas Mavericks reporter Tim MacMahon reported that the team fears that Luka Doncic could consider requesting a trade from the team “as soon as the summer of 2024” if the team doesn’t improve by then.

“There’s a strong sense of urgency within the organization to expedite the process before Doncic loses faith in the Mavs’ ability to build a contender around him. He’s wrapping up the first season of a five-year, $215 million supermax contract with a player option for the final season,” MacMahon wrote for ESPN on early Saturday morning. “Team sources have acknowledged to ESPN that fear exists that Doncic, who publicly and privately expressed extreme frustration this season, could consider requesting a trade as soon as the summer of 2024 if Dallas doesn’t make significant progress by then.”

It’s massive news and the NBA world had plenty to say about it on Twitter.

We’ll have to see what the future holds for Doncic.
