It’s been a big week for Cleveland Browns superstar Myles Garrett.

On Wednesday, the All-Pro defensive end was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his two-sack performance in the Browns’ 39-38 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, in which he also blocked a field goal. Later in the day — and on the eve of their season opener — the Cleveland Cavaliers announced that Garrett has purchased a minority stake in the franchise.

“As a leader on and off the field, Myles has become a Cleveland icon and shares in our organization’s commitment to being a transformative force for good across the region,” Cavs chairman and governor Dan Gilbert said in a statement. “We are honored to welcome this long-time friend of the team as our new partner and investor. Myles’ passion and commitment to the city he loves will allow us to reach new communities and continue to build the successful future of this franchise.”

Added the 27-year-old Garrett: “I have admired the Cavaliers organization’s hard work, tenacity and dedication to the community since my early days in Cleveland. To have the opportunity to join this impressive and purpose-filled franchise, under Dan’s leadership, is truly a dream come true.”

While Garrett is best known for his work on the gridiron, he’s no stranger to the hardwood. In addition to being a courtside fixture at Cavs games since being drafted by the Browns with the No. 1 overall pick in 2017, the Texas A&M product has become known for his highlight reel dunks — so much so that Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski has begged him to retire from hoops in fear he might suffer an injury. Last year, however, Stefanski made an exception, with Garrett taking part in the celebrity game during the 2022 NBA All-Star Weekend in Cleveland.

After the news of Garrett’s purchase of a stake in the Cavs was announced on Wednesday, many took to social media to weigh in.
