The sun came up on Wednesday and Paul Pierce had another couple of wild tweets overnight.

The Boston Celtics superstar took to Twitter after LeBron James broke the NBA’s all-time scoring record. Pierce wanted to refer to James as the “GOAT” (Greatest Of All Time) — instead, he tweeted out “The GaoT.”

Pierce had high praise for James, who achieved the legendary feat in the third quarter of Tuesday’s Los Angeles Lakers game against the Oklahoma City Thunder at Staples Center. James secured the all-time record of 38,888 points with a nasty fade away. Pierce called it an “honor,” while acknowledging had the chance to match up against one of the game’s greats during his prime.

“Honor to say I had a chance to match up with The GaoT I’ve alway never acknowledged u as King but u Truly the King #lRespect no player in NBA History had the pressure coming in the league to exceed expectations not only have u live up to it but u have surpassed it #allhailtheKing,” Pierce tweeted.

Following his original tweet, Pierce claimed that James securing the all-time scoring record somehow makes him “underrated.” He also had seemingly clever responses to the replies from the NBA world, which said otherwise.

Unsurprisingly, the Paul Pierce tweets took social media and the NBA world, which had plenty to say about his comments, by storm.
