Paul Pierce had plenty of time to praise Denver Nuggets star, Jamal Murray. So much so that he made a bold declaration about him.

The former NBA champion and Boston Celtics star claimed that he thinks that the former Kentucky Wildcats standout is the best point guard in the league.

“Paul Pierce has Jamal Murray as the top point guard in the league as of today,” SHOWTIME Basketball tweeted.

Pierce said that as a point guard, there’s nothing that Murray can’t do. Granted, he’s on the heels of an awesome NBA Playoffs. Murray averaged 26.1 points, 7.1 assists, and 5.7 rebounds in the 2023 postseason en route to the Nuggets’ first NBA Championship. In the NBA Finals, the Nuggets star averaged 21.4 points, 10.0 assists, and 6.2 boards in the five-game series.

And it’s not as if this run was exclusive to Murray’s abilities. He also famously went off in the 2020 NBA postseason in the bubble. And after a terrible knee injury, he rebounded and was able to put on the show that he did in this year’s NBA Finals.

Is it a crazy claim? As Kevin Garnett mentioned in the video, the NBA is littered with great point guards like Stephen Curry, Luka Dončić, and others. Perhaps as of now, it feels like a very bold claim. And it is. But as far as what he’s done lately, Jamal Murray has done as well as anyone.
