The San Antonio Spurs as a team has struggled mightily this season, currently holding the worst record in the Western Conference. But when it comes to rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama, he has been as great as advertised.

Wembanyama is in the midst of an unbelievable rookie season, averaging 21.1 points per game, 10.6 rebounds per game, and 3.8 assists per game. But perhaps his most eye-popping stats have come on the defensive side of the ball, averaging a league-high 3.5 blocks per game to go along with 1.3 steals.

His ability to contribute in every aspect of the game is simply something that you only see from the greats in the history of the game. And his absurd stat line in the Spurs matchup on Sunday against the Philadelphia 76ers is further proof of exactly that.

Wembanyama finished with 33 points, 18 rebounds, six assists, seven blocks, and five three-point shots made. It is the first time in NBA history that a player has finished with 30 or more points, 15 or more rebounds, five or more assists, five or more three-point makes, and five or more blocks in a game.

Wembanyama’s impact to influence this many aspects of the game is something that almost no player in NBA history has ever been able to do, much less a rookie like he is.

Naturally, fans had plenty to say about the performance, taking to social media to sing Wembanyama’s praises.

Unfortunately, Wembanyama’s impressive play was all for nothing, as the Spurs would go on to lose this game in double overtime.

This Spurs team is very clearly not ready to compete whatsoever at the moment. But one thing appears to be very clear. If the Spurs can surround Wembanyama with some standout players, the Spurs should absolutely be a team that can contend out of the Western Conference for years to come.
