This week’s Florida-LSU game was postponed due to a a coronavirus outbreak, news that probably didn’t surprise people who saw the amount of fans in the stands during last week’s SEC contests.

Tonight, Florida coach Dan Mullen announced that he has tested positive.

This is especially ironic as Mullen, very recently, had been vocally pushing the idea that Florida could fill the stadium to capacity.

Listen, it’s basically a miracle that any sports are happening at all in this country, given the pandemic response here. It’s wild that coaches and others still want to rush back into things so quickly, but that’s just been the mentality of too many people, including those in charge of deciding these matters.

Obviously, best wishes for Mullen on a fast and full recovery, and hopefully the program’s contact tracing measures were such that he managed to isolate quickly. But these stories are just going to keep happening more and more frequently, and at a certain point, it becomes questionable whether the season will be completed.
