In their season-opening showdown with the LSU Tigers on Sunday night, the Florida State Seminoles notched a massive and vital victory to start their season. And it seems the players are already riding high from the win, particularly sophomore linebacker Jared Verse.

In an interview with reporters following the game, Verse was excited about the big win over the SEC opponent and he had an extremely honest and optimistic assessment of the Florida State performance and the team’s expectations going forward.

“I’ve been saying all week this is our chance to prove we’re not just some little one-and-done team that we can’t just beat lower-level teams,” Verse said. “Honestly, the simplest way to say it is Florida State’s back.”

It’s been quite the fall from grace for the Seminoles as of late. After winning the BCS National Championship in 2013 as part of five straight 10-win seasons between 2012 and 2016, Florida State has not had a winning season since Jimbo Fisher left the team following the 2017 season.

But despite all the struggles in recent years, the Seminoles are beginning the 2022 season 2-0 after beating Duquense in Week 0 to start the season and LSU on Sunday night. Perhaps Verse is on to something after all.
