The Kentucky Wildcats just took down one of the top college softball teams in the country! And they did so in dramatic fashion. Kentucky defeated the third-ranked Stanford Cardinal with a walk-off hit, earning a sweep of one o the best teams in the nation.
Kentucky’s Ally Hutchins recorded the walk-off in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Wildcats and the Cardinal are participating in a tournament held out at San Diego State University.
Kentucky’s softball team boasted over the walk-off hit from Hutchins. “#HUTCHisCLUTCH,” they posted on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

Not surprisingly, there was plenty of attention on the walk-off hit. It was a big spot for the Wildcats, who’ve been one of the stronger softball programs in the country over the last few years. It’s also a timely win for the team, as the Kentucky men’s team ate a historically bad loss at Rupp Arena. So, at least UK fans have something to celebrate over.
This was a great start to the season for the Wildcats. The NCAA Softball season is only a few days old, so a sweep of the third-ranked team in the nation looks pretty dang good right now. Stanford is likely to remain one of the top teams in the nation this year, so you should expect this win to look pretty good for UK going forward.
Softball fans everywhere had plenty to say about the big upset.
