The Ole Miss Rebels desperately needed a punter on short notice as the team’s only punter was injured entering preseason camp. So head coach Lane Kiffin sent his coaching staff and players out to campus in search of a new punter. They found one in the most unlikely place.

During a press conference on Saturday, Kiffin revealed that his players found someone who happened to be a former Division I punter. They found him at a keg party, of all places.

“Yeah, I don’t know a whole lot about him,” Kiffin said, according to On3. “I think he was down at the frat house. You know, like, at a keg party or something. Where they got him from. So, we’ve got some conditioning work to do with my guy. We just said, ‘Hey, someone go find a punter on campus.’ And so, we found one that actually used to punt Division I. So, you never know.”

The punter Kiffin is referring to is former Nevada punter Charlie Pollock, who the team officially signed to their roster through the transfer portal last week.

Pollock did not play college football in 2021 after entering the transfer portal following the 2020 season. But under the circumstances, Kiffin and the Rebels will be glad to have any sort of punter – even if they found him at a frat party and he hasn’t punted in a year.
