Brock Purdy’s successes thus far weren’t overshadowed by the performance in the San Francisco 49ers’ 19-17 loss to the Cleveland Browns in Week 6.
That doesn’t mean people didn’t have an issue with his performance, however.
Former 49ers star wide receiver Anquan Boldin made sure to stand up for the young quarterback.
“No matter how you’re playing, people are going to have questions,” Anquan Boldin told Fox News.
Purdy had a tough task ahead of him, of course. He wasn’t completing a lot of his passes and had a career-low 55.3 passer rating. He also was without Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel for the time being.
What was Brock Purdy up against in Cleveland?

“You look at that game Sunday, the field conditions were sloppy as crap,” Boldin said. “I played in Cleveland obviously being in Baltimore. That was probably one of the places we hated going because we never knew what the conditions would be.”
Boldin, who tallied 14 years in the NFL, three of them with the 49ers, said he knows the conditions could be working against him, and Cleveland was playing at a higher level, especially defensively.
“It’s right on the lake. You don’t know if you’re going to get sleet, rain, snow. Sometimes you can get all three in one day. I think the conditions weren’t perfect for football. Both teams knew that. They knew it was going to be a slugfest, a defensive battle.”
Don’t worry — nobody is questioning Purdy’s abilities. Not head coach Kyle Shanahan, not general manager John Lynch — nobody. Boldin follows that suit as well.
“I think he’s fine,” Boldin added. “Great, young talent. I think the thing for him is win now, because at some point, you’re going to have to pay that kid which is going to take weapons away from around him. Take advantage right now while he’s on a rookie deal.”
