San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy, who just went into the NFL’s concussion protocol on Tuesday, faces one final test Saturday.

Pass the test, and he will “definitely” start Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday.

Purdy is listed as questionable on the team’s injury report. He did not practice Wednesday, was limited Thursday but was a full participant Friday.

The second-year quarterback suffered the concussion during a quarterback sneak in Monday night’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Although Purdy stayed in the game, he began feeling concussion symptoms on the plane trip home.

Sam Darnold is in line to start if Purdy doesn’t pass his final test. Nothing against Darnold, but Purdy has already proven what he can do in San Francisco’s offense, and the once seemingly invincible 49ers desperately need a win after two straight losses.

Some 49ers fans are cheering for Purdy to pass his final test, but others are wondering if he might be trying to return too soon.
