As the NFL offseason kicks off, former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is the top free-agent quarterback on the market and current Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers could join him in looking for a new team. But even though there are plenty of teams in need of quarterbacks, it’s recently become clear that some of them are not interested in signing either veteran quarterback.

As NFL insider Peter King of Pro Football Talk reports, the Houston Texas, Indianapolis Colts, Las Vegas Raiders, and Carolina Panthers are all in need of a quarterback, but none of them are interested in Derek Carr or Aaron Rodgers.

“The Bears have the first overall pick in 2023. There are four quarterbacks likely to go in the first half of the first round, and four teams with major quarterback needs in the top nine: Houston (two), Indianapolis (four), Las Vegas (seven) and Carolina (nine),” King wrote on Monday for Pro Football Talk. “I hear—though it might be smoke—that none of the four wants to scotch-tape a veteran like 39-year-old Aaron Rodgers and probably not Derek Carr. So the Bears, if they’re not going to use the first pick on a quarterback, could get rich quick by using quarterback desperation against these four teams.”

This would make sense, given that these teams could be in a position to get long-term young options at quarterback in the draft rather than signing a veteran on the back end of his career. But it’s still a big update as both Rodgers and Carr sort out their futures.
