The New York Jets have made it very clear that they do not want to be the subject of HBO’s Hard Knocks this year, but it’s looking like there’s a strong chance that the NFL forces them to do it anyway. And as one NFL insider explains, that could put some stress on the relationship between the team and new quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
As Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk explains, the team has the final say in what footage makes it to the show and what doesn’t. And there’s a chance that the team could authorize some footage of Aaron Rodgers that doesn’t necessarily paint him in the best light.
“For the Jets, new quarterback Aaron Rodgers would become a focal point of the cameras and microphones, if the Jets receive the assignment to do the show. And if the Jets make a bad decision regarding a Rodgers-related snippet that gets included, the Jets might have to answer to Rodgers for it,” Florio wrote for Pro Football Talk.
“Presumably, the Jets will know the things Rodgers does and doesn’t want to be included in the broadcast. But what if they guess wrong? Rodgers could end up being unnecessarily miffed, over something that was completely avoidable.”
The NFL world had plenty to say about the possibility on social media.
Oooo oook!! I see someone in the Jets’ building is leaking that good information. All out onslaught against Hard Knocks. You’d have to be absolutely incompetent as a coach or team to look bad on Hard Knocks. Show makes stars!! But smart for the Head Coach to put it on Aaron. https://t.co/TjnlZmKWht

Surely the Jets understand that Rodgers makes these calls now…… https://t.co/5QIlXq1Xvn

You said it, Mike..
"The best move, if the Jets end up being the Hard Knocks team, could be for the Jets to let @AaronRodgers12 watch the rough cut — and to exercise full veto power directly over anything he has said that social media could and would use against him."
Only way!

As someone that would love to see Rodgers taken off his pedestal… I would love to see Jets on Hard Knocks! It’ll be great TV! And I will enjoy ever second Rodgers gets scrutinized and/or roasted on social media 🙂

This will be nearly every scene with Aaron Rodgers.

This is certainly a situation the team will want to be careful about if they are indeed forced into doing Hard Knocks
