Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets defense Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (12) walks off the field after getting sacked by New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams (95) in the third quarter during their football game Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis. With Derek Carr signing with the New Orleans Saints on Monday, the Jets shifted their attention to star quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who has appeared to be New York’s top target as the new league year approaches. There now seems to be some momentum on that front as late Monday night, ESPN’s Trey Wingo reported that sources told him that Rodgers “had conversations” with the Jets, and Rodgers was “open to the idea of going to NY.”

The important caveat here is that since Rodgers is still under contract with Green Bay, the Packers would have to grant the Jets permission to speak with the 39-year-old. Otherwise, it would be considered tampering. That appears to have happened, as he was able to have some conversations for the first time with the Jets, who could very well be his only suitor if he decides to continue his playing career elsewhere.

While Rodgers recently emerged from his “darkness retreat,” he still hasn’t decided on his playing future. Even though he previously indicated that he would make a decision sooner rather than later, time is not on his side, as the start of free agency looms.

The NFL world was buzzing over the latest update on Rodgers, as a resolution appears to be coming to a head.
