Former star NFL running back Adrian Peterson is 38 years old and hasn’t taken a carry since the 2021 NFL season, but it does not sound like he’s ready to call himself retired. In fact, it sure sounds like he’s considering a comeback this upcoming season.
During an interview with the Fort Worth Star-Tribune, Adrian Peterson made it clear that in his mind, he has not “officially” retired from the league.
“Mentally, I haven’t officially hung it up,” Peterson said according to the Fort Worth Star-Tribune. “We’ll see what happens. My mindset is, if God’s willing maybe an opportunity presents itself and maybe it happens this season. I’ll go from there to your. But nothing happens this season. For sure, I will be hanging it up.”
It’s a pretty shocking comment from the former league MVP, who most thought was long retired. And as a result, people had plenty to say about it on Twitter.

i think it’s possible Adrian Peterson is the greatest RB of all time bc my first thought reading this was “hmm he could maybe have some short yardage/goal line production” and not “he is almost 40 years old it’s joever” https://t.co/CD4tXqJTWL

It remains to be seen whether or not Peterson is still in good enough shape to actually make a return to the NFL, but it sounds like he’s at least considering giving it a try. And given his previous dominance, there’s a chance at least one team gives him a shot.
