Former NFL All-Pro cornerback Aqib Talib is the subject of a wrongful death lawsuit stemming from a fatal shooting at a youth football game in August.

Talib’s brother, Yaqub Talib, was indicted for first-degree murder following the shooting, which happened in Lancaster, Texas after an argument between opposing coaches escalated. Michael Hickmon, 43, was killed in the shooting.

According to Fox News, Hickmon’s family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against both the Talib brothers and Big XII Youth Sports League and Family Services. According to the lawsuit, Aqib Talib, who was coaching one of the teams with his brother, confronted Hickmon after the game and threw a punch. When Hickmon got to his feet after the blow, Yaqub Talib allegedly shot him five times.

Hickmon’s family is seeking $1 million in damages.

Clark Birdsall, the attorney representing both Talib brothers, told the Dallas Morning News in September that the claims about Aqib Talib were “absolutely 100% hogwash.” He also contended that Yaqub Talib had a case for self-defense.

Talib, 36, played 12 seasons in the NFL from 2008-2019, enjoying his biggest success with the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Rams. He made five Pro Bowls and one All-Pro team. He was working as a broadcaster for Fox Sports and Amazon since his retirement but stepped away after the incident.
