The Atlanta Falcons made a major move at quarterback. After their Sunday loss to the Tennessee Titans, they have decided to bench Desmond Ridder in favor of backup QB Tyler Heinickle.
Ridder had a rough game for the Falcons completing only 8 of 12 passes for 71 yards in the first half vs. the Titans, but was also sacked five times and lost one fumble.
The change comes despite the fact that the team is 4-4 and leading the NFC South at the moment. Meanwhile, while Ridder struggled, Heinickle shined in the second half. He completed 12 of 21 passes for 175 yards and one touchdown.

What also hurt Ridder is that he leads the NFL in turnovers with 12.
Ridder has been inconsistent which explains why he lost his starting position. He’s thrown for 1700 yards with six touchdowns and six interceptions.
Heinickle on the other hand, seemed to be more in control of the offense on Sunday and although they still lost, you have to wonder had he started, would the team have pulled out a late victory?
Ridder naturally has to be disappointed that he is being benched especially after head coach Arthur Smith threw his support behind him. But if the Falcons are to make a change, better do it now than down the line when it’s too late.
