After a lengthy search that included over a dozen candidates, the Atlanta Falcons have reportedly found their new head coach.

The Falcons will reportedly be hiring Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris to replace the fired Arthur Smith.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero had the news first on Thursday.

Morris has previously been a head coach on two other occasions. From 2009-11 he was the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and went 17-31 in the three seasons before being fired in favor of Lovie Smith.

Morris once again found himself in a head coaching role in 2020. The Falcons fired Dan Quinn after an 0-5 start to the season and Morris took over for the final 11 games, going 4-7. Instead of promoting Morris to head coach, the Falcons let him go to the Rams and hired Arthur Smith, who went 7-10 in each of his three seasons with the team.

Before being hired as Tampa’s head coach, Morris had held a variety of positions in the organization, including defensive backs coach. He held the same role with the Washington Commanders from 2012-14 before being hired as Atlanta’s assistant head coach and passing game coordinator.

Morris now joins a Falcons team with plenty of talent on both sides of the ball, but missing a quarterback. Finding one will likely make or break Morris’ second stint with Atlanta.
