Tampa Bay Buccaneers starting quarterback Baker Mayfield has been playing the best football of his career in recent weeks, and this week’s win over the Jacksonville Jaguars was no different.
In the win, Baker Mayfield finished an impressive 26 of 35 for 283 yards, and two touchdowns through the air with a 116.7 passer rating, and it sounds like his coach took notice.
During his postgame press conference after Sunday’s win, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles had some high praise for what his starting quarterback has accomplished this season and the position that he has helped put the team in late in the season.
“He’s been outstanding,” Bowles said on Sunday of Mayfield according to ESPN. “He’s been outstanding in December. That’s what you want from your quarterback in December. Everybody knows each other’s plays right about now. But when you’re trying to make a push and your quarterback is playing great, it gives you a chance.”
Thanks in no small part to the stellar play from Mayfield, the Buccaneers are currently in first place in the NFC South. The team is on its way to clinching the division and moving on to the postseason where they will hope to make a run through the playoffs.
