Last Friday, the Chicago Bears got a haul for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. General manager Ryan Poles and the Bears sent the Carolina Panthers the No. 1 pick in exchange for the No. 9 overall pick, the No. 61 overall pick, a 2024 first-round pick, a 2025 second-round pick, and wide receiver D.J. Moore.

As has been reported and Poles has admitted, the Bears were in talks with a few teams for the top pick, with Carolina’s offer ultimately being too good for Chicago to pass up.

One of those teams that the Bears were known to be in talks with are the Las Vegas Raiders. And on Friday, the Bears’ asking price for the Raiders to trade up to No. 1 was revealed.

According to Tashan Reed and Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the Bears asked for the Raiders’ 2023 first-round pick (No. 7 overall), 2023 second-round pick (No. 38 overall), two future first-round picks, and a future second-round pick.

“The Raiders deemed that price too steep, multiple league sources told The Athletic,” Reed and Howe reported.

Las Vegas has since made a big move at quarterback, signing Jimmy Garoppolo to a three-year contract. Now, that doesn’t mean that the Raiders couldn’t still draft a quarterback in the first round, but they’re probably no longer willing to give up a huge haul to move into the top few picks (the Arizona Cardinals could look to trade the No. 3 overall pick and will surely have a big asking price with the Panthers and Houston Texans expected to select quarterbacks in the top-two picks).

Chicago may have preferred the Carolina package to the Las Vegas one, even if the Raiders had been willing to do it. That’s because of Moore, a 25-year-old star wide receiver — under team control on a reasonable deal for three more years — that gives the Bears the weapon they’ve been desperately seeking for quarterback Justin Fields.
