Bill Belichick does not currently have an NFL head coaching job after parting ways with the New England Patriots this offseason, but based on the way Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Matt Rhule talked about him this week, it sounds like he probably should.
Matt Rhule had some high praise for Bill Belichick this week after Belichick spoke to the team’s coaching staff at length. Rhule claimed that he was so impressed by Belichick’s knowledge of the game and ability to teach that he was actually “embarrassed.”
“He is so smart, he’s seen so much, that he can make the complex so simple that it humbles you and embarrasses you,” Rhule said according to Matt Sottile of KETV 7 in Omaha. “I was embarrassed . . . listening to him, how smart he is, how simple it was. He went four and a half hours just with the coaches. Forget the clinic, like, he came in and met with our coaching staff. And three and a half hours in, I was like, ‘Coach, would you like a water? Cup of coffee? Would you like to use the restroom?’ Because I desperately had to use the restroom, you know? And he’s like, ‘I’m fine, Matt.’ I was like, ‘Yes, sir.’ Just sitting there and just talking, right?
Matt Rhule recapped his experience with Bill Belichick, the guest speaker at yesterday's #Huskers Coaches Clinic.
BB then spent another 4.5 hours 'embarrassing' Rhule with his football knowledge:

“And just his recall from things 15 years ago. And the only reason why we don’t get through more information is because he’s having to slow down to make sure you understand what he’s saying. I mean, so you have this man who’s a savant, right? Who’s been a defensive coordinator. He’s been a special teams coordinator. He’s coached, you know, he could be an offensive coordinator. He’s been a head coach twice. He’s been a G.M. . . . He’s talking about football in a way that just like, I mean, illuminates things, that makes things so simple that you’re like, ‘Oh my goodness.’”
Obviously, it’s pretty insane news that Belichick was so impressive he actually embarrassed another coach, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media.
Sure, Belichick is kinda smart, but he’s not Bob and Jonathan Kraft smart, amirite? Amirite?!?! https://t.co/f7BNI89wLG

Somehow Fredo Kraft and his merry band of sycophants believe they’re smarter than Bill.
Let that sink in. https://t.co/ZklD6Bh0HU— Faith in Dutch's Plan (@EssTeeFYou) April 9, 2024
“He can make the complex so simple.”
Doesn’t matter the sport or field, the great coaches or teachers possess this ability.
They can understand the complex, but make it simple so it’s applicable.
Those who don’t understand it well, do the opposite. Make it more complex. https://t.co/XFAmyjvudN

It’s a really poor reflection on NFL owners that there were seven openings this year, Bill Belichick wanted to work, and couldn’t find a job. pic.twitter.com/5yNqLUd4LY

We’ll have to see if Belichick gets another chance in the NFL next season.
