For the first time since Andrew Luck in 2018, an Indianapolis Colts quarterback has been named to the Pro Bowl.

While many probably thought rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson would be the next Colts signal-caller to receive the honor, it was, in fact, Richardson’s replacement, Gardner Minshew, who was named to the team Tuesday.

Minshew appeared in all 17 games and started 13 games for the Colts after Richardson’s early season injury took the rookie out for the year. He threw 15 touchdown passes, placing him last in the AFC among quarterbacks with at least 400 pass attempts, and recorded 3,305 passing yards and nine interceptions.

Minshew joins left guard Quenton Nelson, center Ryan Kelly, and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner as the other Colts players to be named to the 2024 Pro Bowl.

It’s Minshew’s first Pro Bowl appearance in his five-year career.

Social media had a lot of questions, jokes, and comments about Minshew being selected.

One fan defended the selection, saying, “Imagine not embracing the awesomeness of this guy, regardless of how you may feel about how he measures up as a NFL QB.”

Another wasn’t quite as understanding, saying, “Alright folks, it’s time to officially put the Pro Bowl out to pasture.”

Another took issue with the selection, saying, “Alright, man, lmao. genuinely in discussion for worst pro bowler ever; he was so bad this year.”

Another has an issue with using the Pro Bowl as a measure of success, saying, “This is why ‘pro bowls’ shouldn’t matter when evaluating a career. I like Minshew, but he didn’t have a pro bowl caliber year.”
