While the San Francisco 49ers have decided to move on from Jimmy Garoppolo, one NFL Hall of Famer thinks the team is making a huge mistake.

Brett Favre seems to think that the 49ers should stick with Jimmy G, at least through the remainder of his contract, instead of backing Trey Lance.

“My personal opinion, I would go with Jimmy Garoppolo,” he said during a recent interview with The33rdteam.com. “He’s not as flashy, not near as flashy. He wasn’t their first-round pick. And no offense toward Trey Lance, but what Jimmy has done is win and win, win, win again. Not flashy. So, it’s not the glamorous pick, but my goodness, the guy has won and put the 49ers in a position to compete for the Super Bowl year in and year out and deserves the right to keep playing.”

Favre knows a little something about being replaced. When the Green Bay Packers drafted Aaron Rodgers to eventually replace him eventually, he was not happy about it. So that may explain why he is on Garoppolo’s side in this matter. Favre did say he knows is Lance is talented, but he thinks winning should factor into this too.

“There’s a tremendous upside with Trey; no question about it,” Favre said. “But [Garoppolo] has been a proven winner. And that oftentimes gets overlooked — is a guy a winner? And Jimmy Garoppolo is definitely a winner,” Favre said.

Favre may be proven right but the 49ers fans and management think they have their man in Lance.
