It’s a new era for the Tennessee Titans.
In an offseason of sweeping changes, including firing Mike Vrabel, hiring Brian Callahan, and trading prolific running back Derrick Henry to the Baltimore Ravens, it’s safe to say things are going to be much different in Nashville this season.
One thing that will remain, though, is quarterback Will Levis.
Levis, who started nine games last season after being selected 33rd overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, factors into Callahan’s plans for his first season as head coach, Callahan said Wednesday, via NFL.com.
“He’s got two things going on. He’s trying to build relationships and be a leader, as well as learn an entirely new way of doing and playing football than he’s been accustomed to in his first year. He’s got a lot on his plate. I’ve been very pleased with his demeanor, his actions as he’s started the offseason program, and again, we’re in our first few days, but really excited about where he’s headed in that role.”
It’s hard to gauge just where Levis is at in terms of an NFL talent going off his nine starts last season. The former Kentucky Wildcat finished with eight passing touchdowns and four interceptions to go along with 1,808 yards.
Henry’s departure will likely hurt the offense, but the Titans replaced him with former Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard, and, perhaps more importantly, signed wide receiver Calvin Ridley to a four-year deal, giving Levis a true number-one option.
