Sean Payton, the newly appointed head coach of the Denver Broncos, will look to turn around a dreadful first season with veteran quarterback Russell Wilson at the helm. He detailed that a big part of the changes he will bring will be in “bringing the winning culture” back to Denver.

Payton officially signed a five-year contract with Denver on Friday. Upon doing so, he issued a message to “Broncos Country”, saying that he is excited to get to work.

“Broncos Country, this is newly appointed head coach Sean Payton of the Denver Broncos. Fresh off of signing a contract here. I am excited to be a part of this team and bring a winning culture back. Looking forward to working with all of you, and we are going to need your support.”

Payton will look to help a Broncos organization that has had six straight losing seasons. Many Broncos fans welcomed Payton with open arms on social media following this message.

While the losing culture will surely be a focus of Payton’s, perhaps his biggest area of concern may be the drastic drop-off in production from Russell Wilson last season.

The nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback threw just 16 touchdowns on the year while completing just 60.5 percent of his passes, both being career lows by a wide margin.

While Payton has already stated that he “is excited” to get to work with Wilson, there certainly could be some concerns behind the scenes about how Wilson may bounce back from his horrendous first season in Denver.

Regardless, the Sean Payton era in Denver is now officially underway, and it should certainly be intriguing for better or worse in the upcoming 2023-24 season.
