The Denver Broncos sit near the bottom of the NFL standings heading into Week 6. And with the trade deadline looming, Broncos head coach Sean Payton discussed the possibility of potentially making some big moves to shake up the roster.

Payton of course is in his first season in Denver, and thus far things have obviously not gone to plan. The former Super Bowl champion coach had been widely praised as an offensive guru before taking the job.

While the offense does look improved with Payton at the helm, their defense has taken a significant step back that has been too much for the offense to overcome.

Through five weeks, the Broncos rank dead last in a majority of defensive categories, including yards allowed per game and points allowed per game.

That simply isn’t going to lead to much success in the NFL, which would make most assume that Payton would like to shake things up at the trade deadline to potentially fix a defense that has looked lifeless.

However, that may not necessarily be the case, as Payton stated that he is not actively shopping anyone on his team at this point. He did however say that the team will answer any call regarding a potential trade.

“We’re not looking to do business with any of our players,” Payton said in a press conference on Tuesday via Mike Klis on 9 News in Denver. “That doesn’t prevent teams from calling. We pick the phone up, but that’s where it’s at.”

This isn’t exactly an uncommon response from Payton, as pretty much every team will at least answer calls from another team regarding a potential trade.

That being said, Payton further stated that he didn’t even know that the trade deadline was in three weeks, meaning that trade talks aren’t exactly at the front of his mind at the moment.

“Until you said it, I wouldn’t have known the trade deadline was three weeks away,” Payton told a reporter.
